Keeping up to Date
When you are doing research it is important to keep up to date with developments in your subject area. There are a number of ways that you can do this; these include:
Subscribing to email lists (www.jiscmail.ac.uk is the national academic mailing list system)
Email alerts (you can usually set these up in indexing databases)
RSS feeds
Another useful resource is the research database Zetoc: The monitoring and search services for global research publications. It is a current awareness service that allows you to create email alerts and RSS feeds for the research areas that you are interested in. It gives access to over 29,000 journals and more than 52 million article citations and conference papers through the British Library.
If you get the chance to attend conferences these are a good way of finding out about the latest research and networking with those in the field. Very often student bursaries are available to help you cover the cost of attending.
