AIMS & OBJECTIVES
The aim of Learning Services is to maintain integrated Learning Centres at the heart of the seven main College sites providing focused resources, a high quality service and student support to complement classroom-based and offsite learning.

- To maximise the contribution made by the Learning Centres to the student experience and the learning process
- To provide all students with the learning resources, services and facilities to support and develop their learning skills
- To contribute to the development of College students as confident, competent independent learners.
- To make a major contribution to the development and implementation of the College's e-learning/ILT strategy.
- To contribute to improved student retention, achievement, progression and satisfaction.
Standards
- To provide access to the Learning Centres on the seven main College sites for a minimum of 40 hours per week during term time. Facilities to be open from 09.00 to 16.30 for at least 95% of the student Academic year.
- The Learning Centres will provide a comprehensive range of books, e-books, journals and e-resources to support curriculum delivery. A minimum of 4 books/monographs per registered student will be available across all College sites.
- The Learning Centres will provide access to PCs to include Microsoft Office applications, internet access and e-resources for all College students on a 'drop-in' basis.
- A ‘Virtual Learning Centre’ accessible to all College students and staff via Moodle will provide online/remote access to resources and a virtual help desk for learners not able to access the campus based Learning Centres.
- Specialist equipment, software and resources to support learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities will be available in all the Learning Centres.
- Information and basic IT support will be provided in the Learning Centres on the seven main College sites by suitably qualified and/or experienced staff between the hours of 09.00 and 16.30 for at least 95% of the student Academic year.
- Learning Centre inductions, information, research, IT and study skills sessions will be made available on an individual or group basis, to all College students, on the seven main College sites.
- The College Learning Centres will aim to purchase 90% of the learning resources requested by teaching colleagues within the limits of the allocated learning resources budget.
- The College Learning Centres will aim to provide a range of study spaces to include areas for private/quiet study, group work and whole classes. A minimum of 1 space per 50 registered students will be available on the seven main College sites.
- An on-line catalogue (OPAC) of the learning resources held in all the College Learning Centres will be accessible in all Centres via the Internet (http://webopac.cornwall.ac.uk).
- Information on Learning Services on the seven main College sites will be available via the College intranet.
- General and specific leaflets and guides will be available from all Learning Centres to include subject guides to information, guidance on referencing and copyright, electronic resources and IT help sheets.
- Access to resources in all the College Learning Centres and to those not held by the College will be provided free of charge via the inter-site and inter-library loan systems. This service applies only to College-related study and research and not to resources for personal interest.
- The Learning Centres will provide access to b/w and colour printing, photocopying, binding and laminating - a charge is made for some services.
- A Learning Services specific User Survey will be conducted each year and the feedback used to improve services and resources.
