Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can use the Learning Centres?
The Learning Centres are open to all College students and staff. It is also possible for members of the public to use the Centres, see the Special Membership page for more details.
2. How can I join?
Students will automatically be able to borrow from the Learning Centre. All that is required to borrow from the Learning Centre is your Student ID card. Members of staff will need to register with their local Learning Centre to be able to borrow items.
3. What may I borrow?
Students may borrow up to 8 items (12 for Higher Education courses) at a time.
4. How long may I borrow for?
The normal loan period is three weeks but some popular resources are on Seven Day, Three Day or One Day loan. Occasionally, an item may be 'Reference Only' in which case it may not be taken out of the Learning Centre.
5. What if I need a book for longer?
You may renew books and other resources in person or by phoning us, unless someone else has reserved the item. Items can be renewed up to 3 times.

You may reserve items out on loan to another borrower free of charge by reserving it.
7. What if an item I want is not available from the Learning Centre?
If the item is available from another Cornwall College Learning Centre you can apply for an inter-site loan. If the item is not available from any Cornwall College Learning Centre you may still be able to obtain it, as we may either purchase it or we may get it for you from another library. In the latter case, you will need an inter-library loan.
8. What if I am late returning an item?
Fines are charged on all overdue items, as follows:
9. I owe fines, but I can't afford to pay at the moment. What do I do?
If your fines are over £5.00, you will be unable to borrow until the fines are cleared or reduced. If there is a genuine reason why you are unable to pay a fine completely, you can arrange to pay off the fine at an agreed amount every week. Fines are not set to raise money and we do not want to make your learning difficult. We charge fines to encourage return of material so that everyone has access to learning material.
